The 8 most Instagrammable places in Dubai

Dubai is well known for its Instagrammable spots. There are all the usual suspects, Burj Khalifa, Bounty Beets, Five, La Mer… So here’s a list of 8 Instagram worthy spots that probably weren’t on your radar – but will be now.

1. Arabian Tea House (IG: @arabianteahouse Followers: 37.3k )

Stepping into The Arabian Tea House feels like a time capsule from the Dubai of today to the Dubai of yesterday. Located in the old district of Al Bastakiya, The Arabian Tea House is a rare example of authentic Dubai and Middle Eastern charm. Built during the 1920s by a local pearl trader, the house is steeped in history, and is jam-packed with photo opportunities thanks to the owner’s eye for detail. For those who enjoy afternoon tea, British style, to those who appreciate finer Asian tea houses, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, especially for those who enjoy a photo opportunity.

2. Muchachas Mexican Cantina (IG: @_MUCHACHAS_ Followers: 4,311 )

Appearances can be deceiving, so don’t be fooled when you pull up to the entrance of the Holiday Inn Express, Safa Park. Hiding beneath the bland hotel facade, you’ll find Muchchas Mexican Cantina – a candy-colored Mexicana haven serving ice-cold cocktails and Mexican share-style street food. Behind the same Aussie duo as Tom & Serg, the causal venue is inspired by the success of Melbourne’s Mexican Canteen scene. Vibrant fiesta colours and quirky tableware including a Chihuahua taco plate will have your camera flashing throughout the entire evening.

3. Galaxy Bar (IG: @galaxybardxb Followers: 2,325)

This late-night hidden gem is located in DIFC. With a maximum seating capacity of fifty, the universe inspired venue is an intimate lounge bathed in deep, dark plush blues, and cloaked underneath a ceiling of twinkling stars. With a strict dress code policy of ‘No effort, no entry’ and cocktails that taste as good as they look, this the perfect spot for the more sophisticated Instagram shot. Just make sure your outfit is as out of this World as your photos will be to guarantee entry to this exclusive spot.

4. NYX  (IG: @nyx_dxb Followers: 429)

Hidden below Chef Izu Ani’s famous Greek restaurant Gaia in DIFC, and aptly named after the Greek goddess of the night ‘Nyx’, this underground nightclub Nyx is one of Dubai’s best-kept secrets. Frequented by local and visiting celebrities including Rita Ora, Fifty Cent, and A$ap Rocky, you won’t find much about it online, but getting through the doors of this place to capture an exclusive Instagrammable shot in the award-winning venue will win you mega kudos with your following.

5. Comptoir 102 (IG: @comptoir102 Followers:32.4k )

Featured in Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, you already know that this Jumeriah cafe-concept store is popular with the style squad, and for good reason. The Parisien owner has created a bohemian sanctuary that is so far removed from the conventional malls we are so accustomed to seeing that you’d be hard pushed to believe you were in Dubai and not Bali. Housing a carefully curated collection of unique beauty, fashion, and furnishing pieces sourced from around the world, a visit to Comptoir 102 promises a unique experience, as well as one of a kind pictures that will drive your Instagram likes.

6. Boston Lane (IG: @bostonlane.dubai Followers: 12.5k)

Toned down millennial pink, this coffee and toastie stop is an Instagrammer’s dream. Located in the Courtyard, Al Quoz, amidst the heart of the city’s underground art, fashion, and music scene, this Aussie owned spot is inspired by Melbourne’s laneway coffee. Charming and quirky, with Moroccan/Sedona vibes, thanks to its picturesque courtyard setting, Boston Lane is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely coffee while exploring the small surrounding pop up shops.

7. Drift Beach (IG: @driftbeachdubai Followers: 55.8k)

Set amidst a stunning infinity pool, overlooking panoramic views of Palm Island Bay and Dubai’s iconic skyline, Drift Beach goes beyond your typical beach club. Drift has a restaurant on site too specializing in French Provencal cuisine. The aesthetics and interiors align with the long stretch of beach that it sits upon, and thanks to a nautical colour scheme and cascading fishing baskets suspend from the ceiling, there’s ample opportunity for that prime Instagram shot.

8. El Chapo Tacos (IG: @elchapostacos_studioone Followers: 1,642)

Envision every single Mexican stereotype imaginable, and then sprinkle tacos and El Chapo on it, and there you have El Chapo Tacos: the most Mexican of all the Mexican restaurants, ever. Even the salt and pepper shakers are a tiny Mexican man and wife! The photo opportunities in this place are so abundant that we can’t even name them all, but if there’s one selling point in between the neon signs, it’s the opportunity to take a selfie with the chalkboard lineup.

2020 Social Trends

As 2019 comes to a close; it’s time to look forward to the social media forecast for 2020! What will we leave behind and what will give us the edge for the year ahead in a social-sphere we’re our waking moments are spent encapsulated by our social media feeds.

Ephemeral content will conquer!

It will come as no surprise to most of us that our attention spans are growing shorter and shorter and how we consume content has changed noticeably. Thus the rise of story content gaining much greater traction for being short, engaging and addictive in a way that people can spend hours going from story to story.  I know I’m guilty of flicking through my following’s Instagram stories to pass the time on the treadmill, shocking I know! But the reality is that our consumption of Instagram stories alone has risen from 100 million viewers in 2016 to 500 in 2019!! So, if you weren’t making use of this tool before, it’s time to take notice.

Is it time for the niche platforms to shine?

Facebook and Instagram have long dominated social media realm as the largest and most popular platforms, however, in recent years, several other niche social media platforms have not only emerged but have significantly risen to fame.  The likes of TikTok, in particular, have caught our attention, launching in 2016 it’s not had much traction until now capturing the imagination of Generation Z in particular, it’s a great platform for brands with a younger demographic; bursting with fun, engaging and super shareable video content. LinkedIn is still a favourite amongst B2Bs and Twitch, amongst gamers with several others creeping up in popularity and will continue doing so in 2020 and beyond.

Time to bid farewell to ‘likes’

It’s really happening, likes are going. In their efforts to reshape the social media landscape Instagram and after recent successful beta tests, the removal of ‘likes’ is set to be implemented globally. Their logic being that likes have become much more than they ever intended to, and are now deemed responsible for determining a person’s social value and waiting for such validation is detrimental to people’s mental health – we’ve all been guilty of removing a post that we feel didn’t ‘do well’.  However, there is speculation that this change hasn’t been made for that reason and is purely to make them more money. As brands are paying huge sums of money to influencers to promote their products. None of this money goes to Instagram. In fact, influencer marketing has become so popular that brands are moving away from traditional marketing methods like advertising.

So, how will it affect brands? Well, if Instagram removes likes then brands won’t be able to measure the direct impact of their campaigns as easily as they do now, which will likely encourage brands to invest more in Instagram Ads as they can easily track the ROI for those. A scenario where Instagram successfully removes likes and gets more marketers to move to their ads feature could be transformative for social media marketing. This will not only affect influencers but may also encourage other social networks to make such moves, which in all honesty doesn’t sound cheap!  There’s no doubt these changes are only just the start of the evolvements we’re going to see and for now, we can only take steps to prepare for the impact these changes are going to have – 2020 let’s be having you!

Dubai Muscle Show 2019

If you work in the fitness or nutrition industry throughout the UAE; the Dubai Muscle Show will need no introduction. Hosted within the Dubai World Trade Centre, the three-day event attracts over 200 exhibitors and 25,000 visitors each year.

The exhibit hosts the best in the business from; supplement, nutrition and equipment brands to athletes from across the globe; with the likes of Applied Nutrition, PhD and Optimum Nutrition in attendance alongside, sponsored athletes such as this year’s Mr.Olympia Brandon Curry and the well-loved Kai Greene.

There’s also a number of competition elements to the show from Women’s and Men’s physique, bodybuilding and strength; to pole fitness and battle of the bars, a calisthenics competition on uneven bars, which seemed to draw the greatest attention from the crowds.  This year we had the pleasure of being in attendance, not only to capture content for a number of our client’s PhD nutrition, 11 Degrees, and Gym Clothing Co but also to showcase our abilities amongst new audiences and brands.

For PhD nutrition we helped to activate the launch of their NEW ‘Smart Plant Bars’ and ‘Birthday Cake Smart Bar’ generating interest around the releases on social before the event and during throughout posts and stories; which were reposted on the Dubai Muscle Show page generating over 4,000 engagements.  We’ve been working with 11 Degrees for some time now, capturing content for their website, brand books, and socials but this time it was all about encapsulating the buzz of the show and the interest around their brand for an exciting video piece, shot by our in house videographer Rob. To build further engagement around the stand we also hosted a rowing competition that sparked up interest amongst competitive attendees with a cash prize of over 1,000 AED for the quickest time to 200 meters. Finally, Gym Clothing Co a fitness clothing company set up by our CEO Jamie also launched their NEW men’s range and provided limited edition Dubai Muscle Show merchandise for the event. So, all in all it was a busy show for us and it’s only set to get busier next year as we onboard new clients and get even more involved in the 2020 show.

Facebook Ad Creation Guide for businesses in Dubai

With over 2.45 billion active, monthly users Facebook is a social media powerhouse. Whichever way you look at it, a large portion of your client base are on Facebook. For this very reason Facebook paid ad’s should not be ignored when it comes to planning your digital marketing strategy. With hundreds of different data points on each of its users the Facebook targeting methods are incredibly accurate. They can also be very highly converting and provide an excellent ROI – when done correctly of course! However if you do not have a solid strategy, plan and goal in place you can end up wasting a lot of time and more importantly, money! Here’s the process I follow when taking on new social media clients to ensure maximum ROI. You are welcome to use this guide for your own Facebook ad’s – I hope it helps!

1. Initial planning

What is your ideal customer (customer persona) ?

  • Age
  • What are they interested in?
  • How much do they make?
  • What are their behaviours?
  • Check Facebook targeting (in business manager) and write down everything else that fits your customer

2. Create Your Offer

  • What is the best promotion you’ve ever ran?
  • Come up with a couple different offers you think your potential customers would NEED to take advantage of
  • IDEAS: Free Ebook, 20 Second Test/ Quiz, Free Session, Giveaways, Free Webinar/ Training/ Video, Free eBook, Extreme Low Price/ Discount, Free Quote/ Calculator, See if You Qualify, Research on Google/ Groupon

3. Create Your Ad

Ad Copy

  • What makes your business different/better?
  • What are the biggest problems you solve for the customer?

Ad Creative

  • Do you already have some great images/ videos you can use?
  • What were some of your best ever posts?

4. Funnel

  • What Is something you can add on to your current offer (up-sell) on the thank-you page to get them to take action NOW? (call, book appointment, etc.)

5. Sale

  • How do you typically get new customers?
  • What percentage of these people actually become customers?
  • What is the Long Term Value (LTV) of a customer?
  • Max you are willing to pay per lead/Sale?
  • Profit Potential

Once you have written information on each point above you are ready to get started with your paid ad strategy. As I mentioned earlier Facebook ad’s are super powerful and can provide your business an incredible stream of leads and revenue when you master them.

THE ‘TIK TOK’ CRAZE AND WHY ITS HERE TO STAY – BUSINESSES TAKE NOTE!!!!

What is TIK TOK?

Despite its rapid rise, there are still plenty of people — often, older people — who aren’t quite sure what TikTok is. If you haven’t already heard of Tik Tok, it is said to be one of the fastest growing social platforms in the world! The app, mainly aimed at content creators, presents an alternative version of online sharing of short videos with music, filters, and other features. Although the app was officially launched in 2016, its popularity has grown massively in 2019, and we believe it is the platform to watch in 2020. Statistics

  • 500 million active users (datareportal, 2019)
  • 3rd most downloaded app in Q1 with 188 million new users (SensoTower, 2019)
  • 41% of users between 16 – 24
  • 90% of TikTok users access the app daily

What type of content is working the best on TikTok for businesses in 2020?

User Generated Content

User Generated Content is the basis of TikTok as a platform. ‘Generation Z’ love an immersive experience. This generation of users prefers to be involved and stimulated. The more entertaining the videos the more they will resonate with your audience.

Creative Content

Unlike Instagram, TikTok largely rejects polished, high-quality content. For this reason it has earned a reputation as a casual platform where users comfortably express themselves. TikTok thrives on a touch of quirkiness and avoids heavily commercial-style productions. This platform is perfect if you want to show the creative side of your business.

TikTok Advertising

 Biddable ads –

TikToks’s rep-based ad setup is not the norm for this type of ad. In other networks advertisers have access to a self serve bidding platform where they can manage their own ad spend and campaign. This however may change in the future as TikTok’s marketing demand grows. Due to the lack of options available right now there is only one type of biddle ad available and that is the in-stream video.  TikTok’s ad targeting is known to be very basic. So far, the targeting filters only allow you to include and exclude by age, gender and location.

Brand page take over

This allows brands to take over your TikTok account for a set period. Creating images, GIFs, and videos with embedded links to landing pages, great for brand exposure

Tik Toks key trends for businesses in 2020

As 2019 comes to an end, we are all planning our marketing strategies for 2020, as you plan ahead, here are the TikTok trends said to hit in 2020!

  • Viral Challenges
  • Influencer collaborations
  • Memes
  • Duets
  • Authenticity

Summary

For part of 2018, it unseated Instagram as the top free app in the Apple Store and remains in the top five position of the free app charts. With 1 billion users, it’s safe to say TikTok is here to stay. Even celebrities (celebrity parents, that is!) are getting jumping on the TikTok craze TikTok is a platform for one style of short and sweet comedy, but it pulls it somehow seems to work. It also allows celebrities to branch out to younger and new audiences. Recently Jimmy Fallon’s #TumbleweedChallege created 8,000 videos with over 9 million views in seven days. This organic growth is huge and something that we are not seeing regularly on the likes of Facebook and Instagram. With a huge audience of younger users it would be silly for businesses to ignore the Tik Tok craze!

5 Most Instagrammable Business in Dubai

The number of businesses using Instagram to reach their target audience has boomed considerably in the last couple of years, and it’s had an incredible effect on the way that consumers discover, connect with and ultimately buy from a brand. But why has this shift from traditional marketing taken place? And what makes a brand stand out enough in a scrolling sea of companies tucked away in the consumers pocket? Instagram’s simplicity is part of what draws users to it. Streamlined and minimalist, easily accessible and diverse – it’s the perfect place to be in the 21st century.  With 1 billion monthly active users, and 80% of these users following at least one brand, Instagram has become the perfect platform for businesses to showcase what they do in the most creative ways. And in Dubai, with its melting pot of curators and creatives, Instagram has become the ideal place for businesses to thrive.  We’ve picked out the 5 most instagrammable businesses in Dubai and hope to delve deeper into the reasons why they are thriving in one of the fastest moving cities on Earth.

Find Salt

If you’ve been in the UAE long enough, you’ll remember the time way back when, where the location of this pop-up burger joint was a complete secret – the coordinates known only to a few. This secretive marketing strategy definitely got people talking about, and eventually hunting for the illusive spot that Salt would rock up to next. Luckily for Salt, they have been able to pitch up at some of the city’s most Instagrammable spots, which has been instrumental to their social reach. From prime position right below the Burj Khalifa to a secured spot in Dubai Marina and now a permanent home right on kite beach. Toes in the sand and a burger in hand – why not?! Fast forward to today, and Salt’s Instagram account is stronger than ever. Fresh and fruity summer campaigns, new and exciting partnerships and the biggest feeling of community of any business in Dubai. ‘Salters’ are a family, and that’s how @findsalt has become what it is today.

Five Palm

Since its opening in March 2017, Five Palm Jumeirah has stormed Dubai’s Instagram scene and saturated our feeds with jealousy-inducing content. Their initial campaign was simple; share guest-created images showcasing the hotel and its facilities – and it worked! Team that with the hotels incredible insta-worthy pools and bars and it would be difficult not to have a successful feed. From opening day until now, various events taking place at this Palm Jumeirah hotel have helped increased its social presence; from brunches to pool parties and ladies’ days, more and more coverage has been created through guests’ Instagram stories and photo tags. Five are promoting a certain lifestyle, one that many of their followers strive to have, and more recently, the clever use of social media influencers at the hotel has caused a surge in Five Palms’ popularity both on socials and in real life bookings.

Dubai International Airport

Believe it or not, Dubai Airport is one of the most checked in-to businesses in the whole world, and this makes it one of Dubai’s most successful Instagram businesses. Earlier this year, DXB successfully re-branded to focus on more youthful, fun and interesting content. In the lead up to launch date, a daily series of intriguing videos were shared which increased anticipation and raised hype surrounding the new branding, and this led to a growth in interest and therefore followers of the @DXB brand. Dubai’s popularity as a holiday destination definitely contributes to DXB’s social following, but this Instagram business never rests on its laurels, and is always coming up with new ways to keep travellers interested.

Zero Gravity

“From Day, To Night” – this company’s slogan is living proof that punchy branding sticks, and ever since the installation of their uber-photogenic glass-fronted pool in 2016, Zero Gravity has been top of the list for most Instagrammable beach club in Dubai. Their marketing approach is perfectly simple – share images of guests ‘living their best life’ poolside and make the rest of us green with envy (well, until we rock up next weekend for their tropical brunch). With a massive focus on their main events, Instagram scrollers will see brunches through to sunsets through to world famous DJ’s filling the dance floor every single weekend. Followers can be sat on their sofa but feel like they’re front row at Sam Feldt or James Arthur with the immersive Instagram Stories that Zero Gravity posts, and it’s this exact style of social media marketing that separates the good from the bad (and the busy from the deserted).

Nusr’et (aka #SaltBae)

A global trailblazer that hit Dubai with sheer force – #SaltBae (real name Nusret Gökçe) landed in Dubai in early 2015, in all of his Instagram glory. The reason this Instagram business stands out so much, and works so well, is because it has the perfect blend of business focussed content alongside the personal story of Nusret Gökçe himself. Followers see all of the behind-the-scenes details from his many restaurants around the world, including Dubai, along with the celeb-schmoozing jet-setting lifestyle that this insta-famous head chef leads.

You’ll never see this page pushing products, only taking consumers on a visual journey. It’s proven that pushy sales methods on social media simply do not work, but this type of visual content gives a brand a unique opportunity – and people seem to love it! Overall, Instagram has the highest average standard engagement rate of all of the main social channels, beating both Facebook and Twitter. The brand engagement rate is even higher than that, which shows that audiences on Instagram are much more open to branded content than they are on other platforms. So, if you are looking to get a step ahead in your business, make sure that your Instagram content is second-to-none.
